Can't Take This Pain

Description

Uru had never felt this alone in her entire life. Back in the distant Sun Lands over the mountains, she always had someone to be around, someone to talk to. Friends and family who she had loved and cherished greatly. And although she may have been shunned by her people for being impure - the daughter of the Sun Princess and a cowardly rogue - she had been happy with her life, and all it's faults. But now she had no one.

For when she had just reached adult-hood, her life came crashing down. Her pride-sisters called her 'lucky', for it had been revealed that she was promised to a Prince from the Pride Lands - a faraway kingdom that was considered to be the largest of it's kind. It turned out that there had been an agreement between King Mohatu and her grandfather, King Amri. She had been traded for two herds of Zebra and a large chunk or territory.

Was that all she was worth? A couple of dirty mules and a pawful of dirt?

Uru had no say in the matter, for a few days after the deal had been made, her escort had arrived to take her away. She had said goodbye to her mother and her younger sister, and then she was gone. It was a long journey, and it took a couple of weeks to reach the unknown lands. And then, after many days, she finally saw her future home; Pride Rock. Her prison.

King Mohatu was kind and welcoming, and it wasn't long until she met her future husband: Prince Ahadi. Unlike his father, he was not so warm nor welcoming. He was moody, and looked upon the lioness with eyes of discontent. He wrinkled his nose at the sight of her and left with barely a hello. What was his problem? Did he think she was ugly? She had eyed her golden body with worried eyes.
And then Uru was introduced to the other lionesses. She felt so odd among them all. They sported coats of browns, and reds, and oranges, with round faces and strong muscles. Herself? She wore a golden coat with a pointed face and slim body. She felt like a rabbit among hares; the same, and yet different.

Her new pride sisters felt this too, for they eyed her with either mild curiosity or hostility. At first none would talk to her, apart from their quiet, mumbled "Hellos". Mohatu's Queen, Gheche, was one of the few who associated with her. For the Queen knew how it felt to be different. She may have had a brown, dusty pelt like many of the other pride sisters, but she was born a rogue. She was small and slim, much like Uru, and she told the golden princess of her own acceptance into the pride. "They will accept you, in time." the old Queen smiled, and Uru felt comforted at her words.

A few days later, she and Ahadi were married. Mohatu and Gheche retired, and so the new couple rose up to take the throne. Despite this, her new husband's attitude didn't improve. He was bad-tempered, and try as she might to get to know him over the past few days, he ordered her away with snarls and growls. She found that she didn't like him at all. The thought of mating with this male disgusted her greatly, but it was custom, and something she could not escape from.

A few weeks later, Mohatu passed on, and the Kingdom mourned. Mohatu had been a great King. And despite Ahadi's efforts, he was a mere shadow of their old king. No successor could be as great as he. This angered Ahadi greatly, and Uru found he had a new resolve. He wanted to be the best King, even greater than his father.
He was strict and unforgiving, unlike the kind and understand Mohatu. Uru often found herself trying to reason with her husband over his ridiculous and sometimes cruel decrees. But why should he listen to her? She was just a lowly female, and after many months Ahadi soon made her know her place; submissive to him.

Uru's life was miserable. She was supposed to lead the hunts, but none would listen to her. The lioness was quiet and not assertive, and so the pride sisters didn't see the point in listening to her. And despite the fact that she never heard such things herself, she knew they talked about her behind her back, for upon seeing her near them, the lionesses would often stop talking and stare at her with accusing eyes. What had she done wrong?

Ahadi was much worse. He stomped about all day, shouting orders here and there, and when he wasn't ignoring Uru's presence, he was being cruel and rude to her. In her eyes, how could anyone believe that this lion was the son of the Great Mohatu? The Great Savior? The male stuck to the laws like a cub to it's mother. He even brought back some of the Old Rules, many of which had been outlawed generations ago by the First King. How did he believe that such acts would make him seem great?

It was many months later when she decided that she had had enough. She missed her family, and her friends. She was not even allowed to visit them, or even send messages. She was cut off from them forever. Lionesses still eyed her with distrust, the animals ignored her words, and her mate was more cruel in more ways than one. She had been confined to Pride Rock as 'punishment' for not yet producing any cubs nor a heir. Uru wept most nights, loneliness and sadness gripped her heart. She prayed to the Goddess of The Sun to end her pain, to bring her hope and happiness in some form. But it never came. And so she made her decision.

She was going to run away.

She left one night, as the sun was beginning to set. The lionesses would be returning back to Pride Rock for sleep, and Ahadi would be patrolling the Northern border. There was nothing stopping Uru.

She would return to her homeland, The Land Of The Sun. She couldn't take such pain for much longer, and her grandfather had passed on many weeks before. It was her sister, Akase, who was the ruler now. Uru knew that her little sister would accept her back without hesitation. And despite the distance between the Kingdom's, she was willing to make the journey.

After she had crept over the Sourthen border, she had broken into a run. Pride Rock was nothing more than a speck on the horizon, and it was only when she could no longer see the giant rock when she finally slowed down. But the days of none stop running had taken it's toll, and Uru was a shell of her former self. She had to scavenge for all her meals, and she was chased many times by either hyenas, rogues, or hostile prides. And yet she was still not any where near her Home Land. She was still too close to the Pride Lands, and her weakened body could run no more.

It was only when she discovered unborn life moving within her that she turned back.

Woah! Hello there giant block of text! This was far longer than what I intended xD' So I don't blame you if you scrolled past all of it.

I just felt like explaining her back story a little. Since I adore her more than the majority of my OC's <3

Poor Uru :C Shame on the lionesses for thinking she was ugly! She is incredibly pretty, and they're all mean >:c

Yeah, Ahadi is a dick too. Sorry, since I know a lot of people are tired of evil Ahadi. Trust me, I've tried to make him nice. Heck, you check back through some of my older pictures and see that I once made him nice! But it just didn't work for me. I mean, SOMETHING must have been wrong with the royal family for Taka to turn out the way he did. People don't just wake up one day and be all "Hey thar! I'm evil!". I suppose it could have been some kind of mental disorder, but ya. It's the nature vs nurture argument again and I'm not going into that xD These are just theories at the end of the day, and anyone can believe what they want ^^

Hrm...Perhaps I'll make one of these for Ahadi. Yes, he is a massive dick. But he has a story to tell too.

What happens to Uru next? Hrm. Guess we'll have to wait and find out ;D

(PS: Cookies for whoever recognizes the name Akase. If you're a long-time fan of TLK, you should recognize it!)
